Cecrops Microwinery

CECROPS MICROWINERY is headquartered in the
prefecture of Attica; a territory that hosts the largest and most
ancient vineyard in Greece. In this specific area, both viticulture
and viniculture are closely associated with mythology, history
and tradition as well as with the local daily routine.
Our privately-owned vineyard dates back to 1957 when grandpa
Philip planted the first vines in a field of approximately 40.000
square metres. Then, in 2020 the third generation enologist
Chris Gikas committed himself to proceeding with the familial
tradition by cultivating those dry, low yield (350-400 kg per
1.000 square metres) vineyards in a cup-shaped arrangement.
His objective is to enhance the vigour of the indigenous
Savatiano variety and to contribute to the continuity of its
cultivation given the fact that an expanded part of the Attican
vineyard unfortunately lays bare or has been abandoned.
Wishing to give steadfast support to the terroir of the area, apart
from Savatiano, Cecrops also vinifies the white, aromatic
variety of Malagouzia and the ancient variety of
Mavrotragano expanding its vineyard around the area of
Anavyssos in Attica.
